Flyers and posters
The main variable is viewing distance: a flyer is read at 30 cm, a poster at 3 metres. That single fact decides your resolution target and your file size.
Pick the size
Common choices, all available as Setup presets: A6 and A5 for handouts, DL for tri-fold-style flyers, A4 and A3 for notice boards, A2 up to A0 and 18 x 24 in / 24 x 36 in for posters.
Resolution by viewing distance
| Format | Viewing distance | Target PPI | Export DPI |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flyers (A6 to A4) | Hand-held | 300 | 300 |
| Small posters (A3 to A2) | 1 to 2 m | 200 to 300 | 300 |
| Large posters (A1 to A0) | 2 m and beyond | 150 | 150 |
Set the matching target in the DPI checker so image warnings are honest for the format. Large-format pages that exceed the raster budget are auto-downsampled with a note telling you the effective DPI; for posters viewed at distance this is rarely a problem.
Color that pops without surprises
- Big vivid areas are exactly where CMYK disappoints screens most. Run the soft proof and check the out-of-gamut mode before committing to a neon look.
- Large black areas: map your background black to rich black (C40 M30 Y30 K100) with a custom color; pure K100 looks washed out over large areas.
- Borderless printing does not exist on most presses: "borderless" means printed oversize with bleed and cut down. Your 3 mm bleed is what makes it work.
Export
Standard flyers: the regional CMYK preset at 300 DPI. Posters: same preset, 150 DPI, and consider asking the shop whether they prefer TIFF for large-format RIPs; the Raster tab covers that.
